Old Gooner's thoughts on: Arsenal vs Hull City

A game bearing a very similar resemblance to that at Burnley though there were a few major alterations to the script. Two of these were the performances of Diaby and Manuel Fawlty, the latter not only saving the penalty so carelessly given away by Fishface, but also commanding his area in a manner we've not seen since last season. Don't remember one flap but several crosses were pulled out of the air with the greatest of ease and in general, he looked very sound.

Thomas V also banished the heebie jeebies of Wednesday night so between him and Billy G there wasn't much going for Hull.

In the first half our lads were at their frustrating tippy, tappy best with some nice approach play but no cutting edge. Indeed it was only after Sami, rather uncharacteristically had started a 21 player handbags at two paces furore, that we started playing properly. Even so, the one goal lead we took into half time, courtesy of Denilson who made a welcome return, was only just deserved.

Diaby had been in and out of the game in the first half but in the second he really turned it on and was, almost unbelievably, outstanding...both in defence and attack. When he and Alex Song combined to give Eduardo a tap in, it really was the gooners at their best. Hopefully the goal will give Eddie a bit more confidence. Minutes prior he'd created a wonderful chance for himself but wasted it.

Shortly after, the big D had realised that this was his day and went on to score himself after more good approach work had left Hull tackling fresh air. Hopefully he'll continue in this vein for the rest of the season. Lord knows we need a bit of height playing well.

Sufficient time remained for Theo to come on, waste a wonderful pass from Denilson, give the Hull full back a bit of confidence and prove conclusively that if anyone is loaned out to Burnley to get experience and confidence, then it shouldn't be Jack the lad.
