Old Gooner's thoughts on: Arsenal vs Liverpool
Players and Staff from Liverpool FC visited Great Ormond Street childrens hospital yesterday. "Its nice to be able to put a smile on the faces of those less fortunate than ourselves who are facing an uncertain future" said James, aged 6 from Islington... Which just about sums up the game. Howard Webb having been our bete noir in several key games at last got one in our favour when he missed Cesc's handball in the last second. An equaliser from the scallies would have been an injustice however as our second half performance more than earned the points. The less said about both sides first half performance the better. It was not an advertisement for the beautiful game. That in itself was surprising as the Gooners looked a far more balanced side than those of recent weeks... on paper. Much was my joy at seeing us start with Nic and Eboue, but with the game being played on grass, by half time I had to allow some misgivings. Obviously AW's half time chat had the needed effect and it would have been hilarious were it not so disappointing as Tomas R. demonstrated just how important it is to keep your eye on the ball at all times.
At last, our goal arrived with he of the great big fat fkin head actually scoring for us. Abou was in good form all night and to my mind was our man of the match despite game saving tackles/saves from Billy G and the much maligned Almunia. At last he again looked like a premier league keeper.
With the other results helping, AW is quite correct in believing that we still have a chance. For sure our run in (on paper!!) looks easier than MFU's and Chel$ki's. Especially as RvP may be around come April. On that point, this statistic is ....what would you call it?... We played 19 games before Van Persie's injury and scored 55 times. In the subsequent 20 matches without him, we have managed just 29 goals. Get well soon Robin.
Gooner for 60 years...
