Old Gooner's thoughts on: West Ham vs Arsenal

Previously in the afternoon, Leeds had put a beatific smile on my gob. It was soon to disappear as for 60 odd minutes, I was suffering from the thought that if you kit up looking like the bloody spuds, chances are you play like the bloody spuds. "Never ever mispass to a player wearing a white shirt (or a blue shirt come to that)", seemed to be our motto for the day. Amazing how some of our lesser performances have come whilst wearing either of the "wrong kits"

The only really positive things that came out of the first half were Ramsey and Fabianski's performances (even Alex seemed a bit off); our ability to find yet another player who can't get a corner past the near post, and, the thought that lack of proper game time negatively affects performance. Both Jack the Lad and Fran Merida looked ring rusty. Maybe, just maybe, I was a bit harsh on Theo a few games back. Jack for sure needs more proper game time elsewhere.

With Behrami seemingly covering every blade of grass and closing us down, surprise, surprise, I was really hoping for Abou Diaby to come on. AW bringing on Sami was an added bonus as he replaced both Jack and Fran who weren't at all happy and Carlos and Eddie switched positions.

I'd written earlier in the day to Gooner mates that "As I belong to the 'AW is God....most of the time' brigade (Don't think God always got his squad/substitutions right either) then overall I'm a contented Gooner." Today, God got it right.

The effect was immediate. The whole team switched on. Rambo got the goal his performance deserved, and, wonder of wonders, Eddie at about 5' 8" outjumped Upson to score an amazing header from Carlo's cross. Bar another good keeping from Green it could well have been 4 or 5.

And now to Stoke. Bloody hell. White or blue? Wish I could say I was looking forward to it.

Gooner for 60 years...
