Old Gooner's thoughts on: Stoke vs Arsenal
It's hard to feel exuberant when a lad, who was most definitely coming good, lies in hospital after yet another horror tackle. Hopefully he'll be back sooner rather than later. We are one of the most fouled teams in the league, year after year and seemingly we get a broken leg every season. Maybe it's time the leg breakers get a 10 maybe 20 match ban with their wages going to the injured player? Up to Aaron's injury, the sheer incompetence of Walton had kept us pegged at the one really good goal from Nic. Walton had turned down at least 3 stone cold penalties before finally giving one for possibly the least offensive of the fouls. Surely that was a case of ball hitting hand rather than vice versa? Talk about "deja vu all over again" but going behind to yet another Delap throw was almost comical. Bill Shankley's comment on having players at the back post..."Posts don't score goals." was appropriate but it may be an idea to at least cover any player who may score at the back post? Justice was finally done however and the grit and determination shone through this Arsenal side. No repeat of the Birmingham blues when Eddie got his. Talking of Eddie I couldn't help but feel that it was a bit insensitive to put him on. "Memories are made of this" should apply to good times. We had some good performers out there with Clichy, Sol and Manny Eboue really performing. They weren't far ahead of Cesc, Thomas and Sami. Nic also was doing some fine hold up play and his goal was a beauty. At the whistle, it was good to see Cesc call all the players together. Presumably the words were to the effect that we can win the league for Aaron, Arsene and the fans as long as we carry on like this. With Stoke having beaten City mid week, City beating Chel$ki (How important was the Bridges non hand shake in the greater scheme of things? I can't remember Terry playing so badly), the league looks very gettable. Every match now a Cup Final. Please no more injuries and for the already injured to come back fit and raring to go.
Gooner for 60 years...
