Le Boss In No Hurry To Sign New Contract
The Daily Telegraph rep[orts that Le Boss has admitted he is in no hurry to open negotiations on a new contract with Arsenal with 18 months to go before his current deal expires.
Speaking on French television Arsène Wenger, who has not added to the trophy cabinet since lifting the FA Cup in 2005, explained that his main concern is that the club remains under the guidance of the right person for the job - not whether he leaves on a positive or negative note.
Wenger said: "I am giving myself a bit of time to think. What is important is the club is in good hands, whether they are mine or someone else's. "Whether I personally leave on a positive or negative not is a little bit less important."
The chief executive Ivan Gazidis said he was relaxed about Arsène Wenger, who took charge of the club in 1996.
Gazidas said: "Typically with Arsène those discussions happen towards the end of the contract period. But we’re extraordinarily happy with him. It’s difficult for me to imagine anything other than Arsène leading the team forward with this young group of players.
"There’s a huge amount of ambition left in Arsène and a huge amount of vision and legacy that has yet to be achieved.
"I’m hesitant to talk about a time after Arsène because he’s in great health and I hope he will keep going longer than Sir Alex Ferguson."
Meanwhile, Le Boss has sparked controversy with comments he made following the draw with Everton that Denilson should have played a handball after he had gone down injured.
James Vaughan continued to play despite the Brazilian going down and came close to scoring the winner for David Moyes' side.
"I wasn’t upset that Everton played on," Wenger said. "I said to Denilson that if that happens you have to commit a handball. I’m very serious.
"If you go down and there hasn’t been a foul, you cannot ask Everton to stop their counter attack and not score. So, if you go down like that, at least put your hand on the ball and it’s a free-kick."
