Old Gooner's thoughts on: Arsenal vs Stoke
It must be hard to own a Ferrari and discover that some bugger's put just sufficient sand in the petrol tank to give exhilaration one moment and grind, cough, splutter the next. Bar Tomas R who started composing on the piano but finished playing the bass in a skiffle group, nobody was really off key but it was all too nervy. Quite understandable given recent results, but when a game that should have been put to bed way before half time is still at 1-0 (and you're already praying for the final whistle at 35 minutes) it doesn't do positive things to the pulse rate. But there were 2 goals, both of them nicely taken and 3 points so it's hard to complain about what should have been. Cesc's saved penalty, preceded (or was it after?) by AA's shot to the touchline, was not conducive to balanced viewing. Neither was Mr Fawlty's flapping at various long throws and crosses. "The Gods are against us ....again". AA redeemed himself however with a delightful bit of footwork and our first but this was closely followed by Cesc managing to pick out Manny Eboue on their goal line. Would the God of White Hart Lane kindly piss orf back to the slough of despond. Finally, after yet another shot against the woodwork, some luck with a deflection to Rambo being clinically finished. So we're back to where we were before last week; 8 points behind Chel$ki (Thanks Shay) and still with that game in hand. Good to see all those apparent ligament strains on both sides...why should we be the only ones to suffer? Next presumably another outing for the kids in Greece... should be interesting: maybe we'll have another chance to see Watt in action, followed by the scallies with AA hopefully in the mood to repeat last season's spectacular.
Gooner for 60 years...
